The Portrait of a Lifetime
Our artwork and the process it is created through is quite different from what many might imagine or might have encountered from other studios. We are a small, atelier establishment. We have always had only one, brick and mortar location for our clients. We spent decades on Chain Bridge Road in McLean. We have spent over a decade at our establishment in Fairfax City. All of our portraits are handmade. Each piece is signed, stamped, dated, and outfitted in the necessary techniques to ensure that it can be identified and recognized as a portrait created by us, and in accordance to the standards of the Lubin brand. We are meticulous in our artistry, customization, and quality. This discretion has enabled us to not only create stunning display pieces for our clients, but to retain them for generations.
The photography work created by the studio is carefully executed so that it can be translated into our two flagship finishing styles. Lighting, subject placement, and composition are the core of creating portraiture. Every subject is our muse. Every detail is important.
We create two different finishes: Imperial and Florentine.
Imperial
The Imperial is our most realistic finishing style. It combines the truth of photography with the softness and intensity that aqueous media provide. The Imperial has been our most popular finishing style for decades due to its nuance. The result varies, and each piece is tailored to its owner’s needs. Imperial portraits are always a tasteful and stunning addition to any wall. This method of artistry is something we have mastered in an uncanny way. Imperial portraits can vary in their degree of artwork. They may even vary in signature colors. However, every Imperial portrait has one thing in common: They are a vibrant rendition of those who matter most.
Florentine
Our Florentine finish is the most whimsical and opulent. Florentine portraits propel imagery to extraordinary places. These portraits incorporate photographic and acrylic media. Our Florentine portraits display texture and the inherent dimensions of brushwork. Pieces made in this way transcend time. Their subject matter becomes suspended in a painting that is put on display for generations. Florentine portraits created by The Lubin Studio are generally owned by those who commission our artwork for specific purposes. Our Florentine portraits decorate many courthouses, agencies, and firms.
Both portrait finishes are mounted so that they are solid pieces and better suited against damage. Each portrait is coated with a protective lacquer. This coating bypasses the need for glass so that the viewer has an unobstructed view.
